UAV battery specifications

The specifications on the UAV battery packaging contain a lot of battery information, but understanding them is often confusing. Some simple definitions will help you.

1. 3S, 4S: The battery pack consists of many batteries connected in series, this number represents this. If the battery pack is classified as a 3S battery pack, then it has three independent batteries connected in series in the battery pack, and the nominal voltage of each battery is 3.7 volts. The total voltage of the battery pack is then listed as 11.1 volts. The voltage of the 4S battery pack is 14.8 volts (four batteries x 3.7 volts = 14.8 volts)

2. Capacity: The capacity rating of a battery represents its output power, or the length of time it takes to obtain power from the battery at a given rate before the battery reaches the cut-off voltage or discharges. The faster you get power from the battery, the shorter it will last. Many times, our battery capacity is listed in milliampere hours (mAh) instead of ampere hours (Ah). This is just a conversion of the metric system to a smaller unit, 1 ampere hour = 1,000 milliampere hour, so 2.2 Ah is 2,200 mAh.

3. Discharge rating: "C" indicates the rate at which the battery can be discharged relative to its maximum capacity. If the battery is discharged at a rate higher than the discharge rating, the battery may be damaged, or worse, may cause safety hazards such as fire. If the battery's discharge rating is 15C, it means that the maximum power that can be drawn from it at one time is equal to 15 times its capacity. Using the example of a battery with a capacity of 2,200 mAh, this means that the maximum current you can safely get from the battery is 15 x 2,200 = 33,000 mA (or 33 amps). The discharge level listed on the battery label is based on what the manufacturer believes the battery pack can handle during the discharge process, without reducing the performance of the battery pack. These discharge levels are sometimes incorrectly referred to as C levels. A battery pack with a higher discharge rate has a lower internal resistance (IR), which is a good thing. Many batteries provide two discharge ratings, such as 30C / 60C. These represent continuity and burst levels. The first number means that it will continue to support 30C discharge, and for short pulses (usually less than 15 seconds) it should support 60C. This allows up to 60C to appear during quick throttle changes, but it should not be something you use frequently. If you need a higher current level, please buy a battery pack with a higher capacity and a higher rated C number.

4. Internal resistance: indicates the internal resistance of the battery or battery pack. Some chargers will test the internal resistance of each battery in a battery pack during the charging cycle. As the internal resistance increases, the battery performance decreases. Therefore, as a general rule, the lower the resistance, the higher the performance the battery will provide. Generally, batteries with high discharge capacity have lower internal resistance. Battery pack labels are usually the manufacturer's attempt to put their products in the best condition. Small gauge wires of battery packs and connectors rated at 65C will not be able to truly handle this amount of current. Shop carefully and use the best battery you can afford. To improve the drone flight experience.
